Chris Steel has been a Member for Murrumbidgee in the ACT Legislative Assembly since 2016 and currently represents the districts of the Woden Valley, Weston Creek, the Molonglo Valley as well as the Inner South suburbs Yarralumla, Deakin, Red Hill and Forrest.
Since August 2018 Chris has also served as a Cabinet Minister in the ACT Government and is currently:
- Treasurer
- Minister for Planning and Sustainable Development
- Minister for Heritage
- Minister for Transport
He was previously the ACT's longest serving Minister for City Services/Roads and held a range of other portfolios.
Prior to entering politics, Chris was a education advocate at peak body Early Childhood Australia and has previously worked in both the Australian Government and ACT Government focusing on a range of social policy areas.
Before coming into the Assembly Chris volunteered as a Director of YMCA Canberra.
Chris has completed undergraduate degrees in Law and Arts (majoring in Political Science) at the Australian National University (ANU).
Chris Steel currently serves as Patron of Woden Valley Soccer Club, Pets and Positive Ageing and the India-Australia Association of Canberra.
