Legalising Cannabis in Canberra

My Labor colleague, Michael Pettersson MLA, is proposing a law to legalise the personal use of cannabis for residents in the Australian Capital Territory (except minors).

This would allow for the personal use and carry of cannabis up to a limit of 50 grams and also allow individuals to cultivate up to four cannabis plants (excluding artificial cultivation).

Penalties would be retained for possession above 50 grams at their current levels. The cultivation of more than four plants will remain illegal. Artificial cultivation will remain illegal. Sale will remain illegal and especially the sale and supply to minors will remain illegal.

I spoke on the Bill in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 20 February 2019.
